Stone Hockey and Rugby Club

Michael Topley31 Oct 2014 - 20:57

An update on progress so far

It seems along while since we decided to merge with Stone Rugby Club and perhaps its time for some reminders. The hockey club has a 10 acre site consisting of grass pitches which we only use about 4 days a year and our astroturf pitch on which we have to play our league matches. The cost of maintaining the grass costs us over £3000. It seemed to make sense that when Stone Rugby Club had to move from Bibby Cornings that we merged and enjoyed the benefits of some developer funding that at least meant we could have a new clubhouse with modern facilities for young people and for the Ladies. Time has passed and we have tended to concentrate on short term inconvenience rather than medium term gains i.e. at times it is difficult to park and the clubhouse is busy. However there has been some progress and the land that SRFC played on has been sold and development has started. At a point in time £400,000 will be available to us to develop the combined clubs and develop a new clubhouse. I would ask you all to focus on the future development of the club and embrase the two clubs efforts to build a combined club and support the mutual aims.
