Stone HC are delighted to announce the appointment of Robbie Smith as our new Director of Hockey, a role that will start with immediate effect.

Robbie is about to begin a new role as hockey coach at Denstone College as well as being our current Ladies 1st XI performance coach. Robbie has a long-standing history with the club having played as a junior and senior member and we are excited as he heads up our Junior and Senior development strategy.

Rob made his National League debut for Cannock HC at the age of 16, going on to win the National League on three occasions, whilst also spending time for Loughborough as a student playing in the EuroHockey League, during this period Rob also represented England at multiple age groups.

In addition to his long-playing career at the top levels of hockey, Rob brings to us an extensive coaching experience - a range that includes running camps for the littlest juniors, Loughborough University and both senior Ladies and Men’s performance squads.

"As the new Director of Hockey, I will be responsible for creating an environment in which all our players, coaches, umpires and supporters have a great experience on the hockey pitch. This includes working with our Junior Coordinators, Senior Club Captains and all of our Coaches to offer a fantastic playing experience for all."

"From an operational point of view, you will see me coaching Junior sessions, assisting Performance Teams, leading the club’s Coaching Team, providing a link between the junior and adult sections, working with Club Captains to help achieve both Performance and Social hockey goals and objectives, establishing and building links with schools through a new outreach programme, and providing support for our aspiring elite junior players to advance in the EH Player Pathway."

"The Club has an impressive group of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers that already ensure that Stone Hockey Club is a great place to play. With potential changes to our structure as we continue to grow, volunteers will continue to be an important part of how we operate. As we add more senior sides and increase our junior membership, we will continue to seek support from parents and members to get involved in volunteering and to help us to create a culture where we are not just a great place to play hockey, but an amazing community with social and development opportunities to match."

“Please do not hesitate to contact me or approach me for a chat about anything to do with hockey at Stone whether that be as a parent, player, member or supporter. I look forward to seeing you at the club soon and to a prosperous future for all involved.”
